My apologies for taking the month of March and now half of April off from blogging. I've been overwhelmed with mommy projects at home and couldn't find the time to catch everyone up on the Vance project. Don't worry...we still took pictures along the way so you can see what you missed. And don't think for a second that work ceased while I was away...in fact, Ronnie's crew is finished. Yes, FINISHED! The sheetrock is hung, mudded, and sanded which marks the end of our contract.
Now, it's up to Andrew to do all the painting, tile, mouldings, and kitchen to get the home completed. So far he's primed all of the sheetrock and installed the backer board for the tile in one of the bathrooms. The shipment of hexagon tile arrived last week, and we can't wait to see how it will look in all of the bathrooms! Our exterior painters started this week, and I will post soon on the exciting colors we chose. Currently, I'm looking for additional bids on finishing the floors. We salvaged enough of the old floors downstairs to use it for patching upstairs. So the downstairs will have completely new hardwood floors throughout (except for the bathroom). Once Andrew's done with the paint inside and the tile in the bathrooms, we'll be ready to call in Ronnie's subcontractors to trim out the electrical and plumbing. It's really getting exciting!
To catch you up, here we go back to where we left off in February:
It was amazing to see how many contractors were here working side by side in one week. So many things were going on at once. Imagine the kids' delight when we drove up and saw a cement truck sitting in the back yard! They were getting the mix ready to add some more cement down in the crawlspace and under the chimney. Unfortunately, we didn't hang around long enough to see it coming out.
Antique locks are installed on all three exterior doors now. I had to take a picture of this one on the front door to try to remember what size it was (why don't I travel with a tape measure on me!?!), because the opening inside this strike plate was too small for the actual lock. Anna at Architectural Exchange came through as always with one that worked perfectly.
Next, you see the duct work under the downstairs floor for the HVAC system.
The carpenters were also working that week on our beautiful new tongue and groove porch flooring. We're so glad we were able to install something authentic. It's all covered up to keep the moisture off of it so that that this pressure treated wood will dry out before we finish it.
The electricians got underway starting upstairs. Shockingly, they were done up there and had passed in the inspection by the time I was there the next day.
The insulation guys went in right behind them while the electricians worked downstairs.
The plumbers were there too, and now we have two spigots outside! One even has the water turned on to it now...very helpful!
Finally, the sewer line had been replaced that week and guys were out there repairing the street...unfortunately, the line had to replaced all the way out there to the middle.
